Makeupholics, Today’s post is about my acne story. I am also sharing my current skincare routine. Having severe breakouts sucks literally, I know that. Even when it’s not a life-threatening or serious disease, its impact on our emotional health is immense. No doubt about it. I know one can be very upset when he/she face acne related issues. Remember, being unhappy and stressed will only make acne worse, so don’t let it win! If you’re having an outbreak of acne, there’s a lot you can do to keep it from putting a dent in your self-esteem. There’s no need to let blemishes or acne stop you from keeping up your social life.

No one is perfect. Every person has some/other problems. I myself faced acne problems during my teens. Can you imagine a time when a little girl who is just 14 , who was self obsessed with mirror . One fine day, she’d see few acne popping up on her skin. All she did is picking the skin and she’d see the acne becoming worse day by day. People in her house called it chicken pox, Infact it was not- It was a severe skin allergy that she got after a vaccination that she took from school. After few days of battling with it-  All she was left out with was this acne leftover marks – Me as a little kid got so worried and upset. I stopped going to school for several days. Every one asked me one question- OMG, Re- what happened to your face. Why there is a lot of marks etc. I missed so many family functions as  I didn’t had the courage to face the world. I stopped seeing myself in the mirror.  It took a lot of time for me to get over it. My life changed when my parents decided to take me to a good dermatologist. At the age of 17, I was prescribed to do  the skin treatments like microdermabrasion and salicylic peeling to remove the scars. Altogether 4 sittings was needed in my case and and that was the turning point of my life. I followed the diet taught by the doctor and also took some medications. I became more confident to face the world and now I am blessed with a clear skin with rare breakouts. I have now learned to keep the acne at bay.

Accept the acne : Learn to accept that you have acne. Even the hardest issues in our daily life become much more bearable once we accept them. There is nothing embarrassing about having acne – 80 % of teenagers have it, and others have had it at some point of time in their lives.

Be patient : It may take upto 8-10 weeks until you start to see results, but there are all kinds of pills, creams, and other treatments that can help. Don’t worry acne has a solution

Get treatment: First, see a dermatologist to help clear up your skin.

“The absolute best way to improve negative feelings about acne is to treat it”

Following this daily skincare routine [for acne prone skin / acne affected people] is extremely important

“It’s very important to cleanse your skin every day.

  1. Wash your face no more than twice a day.
  2. Use cool or warm water and a gentle cleanser.
  3. Use your hands, a baby washcloth (it’s gentler than a regular one), or a cleansing brush for 30 seconds.
  4. Pat (don’t rub) your skin dry.

Cleansers wash away dirt, makeup, and pollution, A good cleanser will also let other skin products reach your skin and work better. Choose gentle cleaners that won’t strip your skin. Now, this should be chosen as per your skin type. Use a neem based face wash or cleansing foam for everyday use. Retinoid creams or lotions can help clear your skin and also lessen wrinkles. Discuss with your doctor on what product should be used for treating the acne. Use only the cosmetics that include salicylic acid, which fights acne. In general, look for skin care products that say on the label that they are noncomedogenic (which means they don’t clog pores) or non-acnegenic (they don’t cause breakouts).

A few words about my skin type, skin concerns etc :

I have a combination skin and my skin is super sensitive, acne prone etc. My main skin concerns are redness around my nose area and darkness under my eyes.

As soon as I wake up, I wash my face using luke warm water, use my magnitone lucid and take either Mirenesse Day cleanser / Yves Rocher Exfoliating Foaming Cleanser (twice a week I use this exfoliator; Else I go with the regular mirenesse day cleanser for everyday) and gently massage with low speed setting for less than 2 minutes. Wash off my face and wipe my face using a cotton pad with Yves Rocher Perfecting Toning Lotion. I use Herbalife Skin Eye gel + Herbalife Skin Eye cream next and gently massage the area around my eyes for about a minute. Also I apply the rose bud lipbalm. Currently I am using strawberry variant – trust me guys- The best lipbalm  I have ever tried. I then apply one Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsule on my entire face and neck and continue with my household chores. This keep my face and lip moisturized. While putting on makeup, I again moisturize my face using Herbalife Daily glow moisturizer. This goes under my makeup.

 My Night Skincare routine
After coming from office- I take off my makeup using MAC cleanse off oil and then remove any extra makeup using wet wipes(As I have a sensitive skin – I use Himalaya/Pampers wet wipes)

Then, I wash my face with Gia Bath and Body works Angel Cleanser. After washing off my face- I dip a q tip inmac cleanse off oil and remove any mascara that my remover didn’t catch. I apply Cleopatra mask after this and continue to browse online/ do cooking. Before bed, I gently wash my face using Mirenesse Pebblesonic + Mirenesse night cleanser ; As its very gently on skin – I use the device upto 2 minutes. And then after washing off with water. I use a cotton pad to apply Yves Rocher Cleansing water all over my face concentrating on my nose area, chin and forehead. And then I moisturize my under eyes using Philosophy Eye hope moisturizer. After massaging the under eye area for about 2 minutes- I apply a drop of josie maran argan oil under my eyes. And I use my Yves Rocher Sebo Specific Zero Defect Moisturiser (only for winters) . If I have acne – I use Egyptian magic cream on top of acne. This helps heal the acne faster and prevents future breakout.

Weekly Routine
I do a home facial using WondeRuci Cacao Brightening Mask and this help remove tan and add that glow to your face. Sometimes, I use some homemade fresh masks such as Oats+manuka honey+banana ; Tomato + Lemon Juice ; Coffee+ refined demarara Sugar scrub for exfoliating lips etc. freshly ground Almond Powder+ milk underneath eyes.  ( All these on good skin days- weekend)

For bad skin days – (how to prevent breakouts)– Nutmeg + honey face mask for removing acne / Cinnamon+Honey mask for removing acne. I also apply the sheet masks from Face Shop/Sally once in a while.
