Karen Murrell lipstick – Poppy Passion | Review, Swatches & LOTDs

Posted on October 12, 2015October 12, 2015 by renjianooj

Summer time makeup look is all about carefree, relaxed and radiant looking skin with a pop of bright lip color. A good wearable lipstick can warm up the entire look. In today’s post I am reviewing a summer essential lipstick from Karen Murrell. The shade is Poppy Passion. It’s a vibrant pink with red undertones. A beautiful pink shade that instantly breathes sunshine onto your lips and leave your lips plumped and hydrated.

Karen Murrell Lipstick – Poppy Passion RRP $29.95

EDITOR’S NOTE:
Bursts of vividly coloured flowers delicately peeking out of the gloomiest day of the year was the only inspiration Karen Murrell needed to combine her love of flowers and colour into a summery lipstick collection designed – just like nature – to inject colour into your day – Summer Bouquet. The last colour to be designed for the collection (Poppy Passion) was Karen’s dedication to the bold and whimsical Poppy flower – the perfect sign from nature to say that summer is on its way!

Hailed as ‘vegetarian lipsticks’, Karen Murrell Lipsticks are made with no animal-based materials and are not tested on animals.

They contain:
–Avocado Oil – provides lips with hydration and protection,
–Cinnamon – plumps lips to make them look fuller
–Evening Primrose Oil – rich in Omega 6, soothes and moisturises dry lips,
–Carnauba Wax – renowned for its high melting point, ensures Karen Murrell lipsticks do not melt in handbags

Swatches, LOTDs and my experience using this bright lipstick from Karen Murrell

All Karen Murrell lipsticks are made from natural based ingredients and contain no mineral oils, animal-based material, parabens or preservatives. They also come in environmentally friendly packaging that help minimize emissions that cause global warming. This is a wearable pink shade with red undertones. Let me start this review by mentioning about the packaging. I love how the outer packaging is designed. Very feminine and girly. The bullet is very sturdy. “nothing nasty touches my lips” is the motto of the company and is so very accurate about this lipstick.

It contains Avocado Oil, Cinnamon , Evening Primrose Oil & Carnauba Wax .

I can’t say it applied smoothly on my lips. Each time I swiped, I could see the line imprints on them. Also, I found it to be streaky while applying ( I need multiple swipes for the color to show up on my pigmented lips, Applying a few layers to get the desired intensity is normal for a natural lipstick). About the hydrating properties, I had to apply a lip balm prior to applying this. They are not super hydrating. They apply and look better when used on top of a lip balm. (This is my personal experience, I am not saying it would be the same for you, If you have non-pigmented lips- This lipstick is fine)

The moment you apply it on lips- you get a smell of fresh cinnamon.  If you don’t like the smell of cinnamon. You might not like this. For me, I love the smell of spices- I love the smell of this. I wore this up to 4 hours. It survived a brunch, I had to reapply it after 4 hours.

A tip for application – For the perfect smooth looking nude lip, prepare your lips by rubbing a soft bristled toothbrush over them to exfoliate away any dry skin or use a lip scrub.  Then use your fingers to press in your Karen Murrell Lipstick. The heat of your fingers fixes the pigment onto your lips and creates a more natural finish.

Naturally produced lipsticks feel different on the lips than chemically produced lipsticks. Naturally formulated lipsticks create a second skin on the lips which makes it feel like you are not wearing lipstick – thus applying a few layers to get the desired intensity is quite normal for a natural lipstick. Thanks to the brand PR for this update.

Here are the swatches and LOTDs. Lip swatches (without a lipbalm- you can see the fine lines on my lips)IMG_5554

I have reviewed the shade Sand Storm here; Sand Storm lipstick from Karen Murrell was highly pigmented and was hydrating on my lips too. Hav you used this shade- Poppy Passion ? Do let me know what do you think of it. Is it as moisturizing as your other Karen Murrell lipsticks? Let me know!

Overall, they are natural, chemical free lipsticks, Made in New Zealand. I would like to try more colours from the range. This shade is perfect if you are looking for a pop of color for a casual day out or a walk. This is a naturally produced lipstick and so, its feel different on the lips than chemically produced lipsticks. Applying a few layers to get the desired intensity is quite normal for a natural lipstick. I don’t mind this either as long as the lipstick is free from all the nasty ingredients. The moment you apply it on lips- you get a smell of fresh cinnamon.  If you don’t like the smell of cinnamon. You might not like this. It survived a brunch, I had to reapply it after 4 hours.
