Lately, I have been a fan of all cacao and chocolate based products. I love the Chocolate Bar Palette from Too Faced which I have reviewed here. It’s so versatile for every day use. I had to get this one too. I ordered this along with some other stuffs from the toofaced website itself. I got it shipped to a friend’s place in US. Moving on to the review of this adorable palette.

If you are looking for a warm toned neutral palette with a good balance of shimmers and mattes – This is for you!. Colors are pigmented and easily blendable. The only exception is the pink color which is just glitter – Pink Sugar Shade. I love this palette and of course that cocoa smell. All of the shades featured in this palette are universally flattering to all skin tones and can be used to create a variety of soft or dramatic looks. If you have the original Chocolate Bar Palette you’ll love this, if you don’t have it you’ll love this too. It’s a completely different set of shadow’s with that same rich chocolatey feel.
If you have purchased the original Chocolate Bar palette recently, you may have a thinner version than the ones released initially. If you bought several months back just like me, this palette is noticeably thinner than the version that got released first. I felt the magnetic closure to be a little weaker on the Semi-Sweet palette. But I have my sponge pouch to carry this around!
Here are the shades that are included (From L-R in clockwise)
Licorice – A matte black shade
Coconut Creme – A matte creme color highlighter shade
Nougat – Light matte brown shade
Truffled – Matte chocolatey shade
Hot Fudge – Dark brown with shimmers
Cocoa Chilli– Matte brown with gloden shimmers
Pink Sugar – Sheer pink shimmery shade- only pink and shimmers are visible!
Puddin’ – Matte Taupe shade- great as transition shade for crease.
Blueberry Swirl – Shimmery teal shade
Peanut Butter – Matte skincolor shade
Frosting – Shimmery bronze shade
Rum Raisin – Shimmery taupe shade
Mousse – Matte brown shade
Caramel – Warm golden brown shade
Bon Bon – Rose gold shade
Butter Pecan – Frost creme shade
“cocoa chilli ” is my favorite shade. All of the swatches below are of single swipes without a primer underneath. These shades are easy to apply and easily blendable except for the shade ” pink sugar”. That’s my least favorite shade out of all. I just cannot express in words how deliciously this palette smells. I am sold for that smell. Love it! And the lasting power – With too faced shadow insurance underneath these shades give a wear time of upto 8 hours which is pretty cool.

Now, Quoting some of the differences I spotted about Semi Sweet vs Original Chocolate bar
-Pigmentation – As far as pigmentation, intensity and pay-off, I find both very similar.
-Type of Shades – The Semi-Sweet palette has 7 matte shadows whereas the original Chocolate Bar palette has 6. I also noticed the matte black shade in Semi sweet is more intense than the original.
-Smell – Both palettes smells great!! Nice cocoa scented
– Packaging/Case – If you have purchased the original Chocolate Bar palette recently, you may have a thinner version than the ones released initially. If you bought several months back just like me, this palette is noticeably thinner than the version that got released first. I felt the magnetic closure to be a little weaker on the Semi-Sweet palette. But I have my sponge pouch to carry this around!
Choosing which among these 2 palettes is purely a personal choice. I know its tough to finalize. I honestly adore them both so much, but if I had to choose just one – It would be the new Semi-Sweet palette. The addition of more matte shades (id I tell you I am more of a matte shadow person) and cool toned colors really appeals to me But, I guarantee you will be happy with either of these…
Overall, A great value for money- slimmer, excellent quality shadows, beautiful combination of colours- Just a marvellous collection of colors that are densely pigmented, universal flattering, provide a large variety of looks, easily blendable, sexy, minimal fallout and appreciable lasting power. I can’t say enough good things about this! And lastly, The great chocolatey smell- True Love!
Have you tried the new Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette? Do you prefer this to original Chocolate Bar Palette?
